CE0X/CE5WQO – San Felix

NEWS UPDATE by CE5WQO {edited} — After my experience in CE0Z Juan Fernandez Isl 2014 as CE0Z/CE5WQO I decided to make all efforts to put another Chilean most wanted ON AIR, so San Félix Isl is on my mind. A few months ago I announced information of my next activity to CE0X San Félix Isl. The original idea was a small team of three operators, but after receive many e-mails from different stations around the world proposing the idea of forming a large Team, I have been in contact with some US stations to make this possible. After hard work in The Chilean Ministry of Telecommunication and The Navy, authorizations and permissions are granted – for now just need to take care of the logistical details to put this entity on air.

CE0X/WU2D San Felix Island

WU2D will be active from San Felix Island (IOTA SA-013) 8-13 July 2014 as CE0X/WU2D. He will be active on 20,17, 15 m mainly SSB. San Felix Island, known as Desventurados Islands, Islas de los Desventurados (Spanish: Unfortunate Islands) , is group of 4 islands located 850km off the coast of Chile. Islands- San Ambrosio, San Félix, Gonzalez and Roca Catedral. DXCC country- San Felix. WAC continent- South America. WAZ zone- CQ 12. ITU zone- 14. QTH locators- EG93, FG03. RSGB IOTA- IOTA SA-013 San Felix and San Ambrosio (Islas de los Desventurados). Video San Felix Island.

San Felix future activity unlikely

There is no hope for a CE0X operation at this time; either from San Felix or San Ambrosio due to restrictions from the military. Dino, CE3PG President of Radio Club de Chile says he talked to Chilean Army officers who said no way – even regardless of Covid situation. He also warned that DXers should be aware of fake operations or scams which have been commonplace from Chilean hams before.

CE0X/WU2D – San Felix

July 14, 2013 – Unfortunately, even though Mike W2UD had his radio equipment with him, the Armada (Chilean Navy on the island) would not let him operate from San Felix, and he is now back on the mainland. It’s unknown if he has plans to return. [tnx KH6CG]
