VJ2L – Lord Howe Island
Ionospheric conditions appear to be improving a little. CW ops starting to get some activity back in the log. SSB conditions remain dreadful. FT8 remains most reliable. Low pressure system over the island. Thunderstorms will likely disrupt operations through Sunday. Conditions expected to improve after 7 June. FT8 may be the primary mode as G-2 G-3 (moderate to strong) geometric storm conditions are anticipated due to arrival of several CMEs. Conditions expected to wane into G-1 (minor) storm conditions by the end of 5 June. June 4 @ 0102 local time. The bands are virtually dead. I made fewer than a dozen QSOs on 40m in one and half hours. Have now switched to FT8 and things are very slow indeed. We checked the other bands and they are no better. A thunderstorm is to the south of us and the noise on 80m is S7-8.
